CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — “I mean, don’t believe everything you read in the papers. Alright?”
That was how Bill Belichick, the new head coach of the UNC Tar Heels football team, opened his response to rumors about preparing a 400-page organizational “bible” for his new role.
“I have no idea where that came from,” Belichick continued. “I don’t have a 400-page document. To think I was just going to show up with something like that, I mean, come on.”
Belichick explained that his interest in college football developed recently through conversations with coaches who sought his insight on adapting NFL-style strategies to the college game. Topics ranged from rule changes to managing budgets and personnel in a system akin to the NFL salary cap.
As for recruiting, Belichick praised UNC’s ability to attract talent nationally while maintaining a focus on in-state players. “North Carolina is the best public university in the country,” he said. “This campus, this education, and this football program have so much to offer.”
Belichick takes over at UNC following decades of NFL success, bringing his wealth of knowledge to a college program eager for growth and achievement.
