Families, spectators cheer on kids competing in AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro

Families were in attendance to cheer on their children competing. It could serve as a glimpse of the first stop in their journey as future Olympians.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — While the Paris Olympics is continuing overseas, here in Greensboro the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic Games is underway.

Families were in attendance to cheer on their children competing.

It could serve as a glimpse of the first stop in their journey as future Olympians.

Young athletes competed in Track & Field events Wednesday.

WFMY News 2 spoke with parents and spectators on the significance of the event.

"It's really exciting, it's really nerve-racking. You've watched your children work so hard and you have the support of your coaches, and it's just really fun to watch them put all of their efforts into good use in one final event," Marisol Rodriguez said.

Darius Telfaire said it's encouraging to see the children learn about sportsmanship.

"I think for children it's great for them to participate in any sport activity as well as getting involved along with your child. They'll see the benefits of competing as well as the comradery of winning and losing as well as being a team player," Telfaire said.
