NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — It's time to rev up those engines! The NASCAR All-Star Race is back at North Wilkesboro!
The week of NASCAR fun officially kicks off Tuesday morning with parking lots and campgrounds opening to fans.
All-Star Race events get underway Friday with the big race happening on Sunday. For the second consecutive year, NASCAR is bringing the all-star fun to the newly renovated North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Event organizers said they plan to greet 39,000 race car enthusiasts. This year's NASCAR All-Star Race will be 200 laps with two all-star cautions at lap 100, and lap 150.
Speedway preparations
When you get to the grounds, the first thing you will notice is the signage. It may look old but it's not.
Crews say it was specifically designed and hand-painted this way to give it a classic look and feel.
Other preps include checking and fixing gate rails where race spotters will be positioned on the day of the race. Vice President of events with Motorsports Speedway, Kenton Nelson, says planning and preparation was a year in the making.
He shares how they wanted to keep the classic look and feel of the track.
"This is an older facility that's got a lot of history to it. There are racers who have raced and won here, and we wanted to encapsulate that entire feel," he explained.
Despite keeping most of the old feel to the track, there are some new additions like a digital race standing display and racetrack lights that can shoot off fireworks.
Tickets are available for purchase on northwilkesborospeedway.com.
