BURLINGTON, N.C. — This week we celebrated National Centenarian's Day, a time to celebrate those who have made their 100th lap around the sun. There are three people, under one roof in Burlington, celebrating that milestone.
Aubrey Bowers, 100, Pearl Gillham, 102, and Doreen Burgess, 100 are residents at Brookdale Burlington, a senior living community.
They all have a unique past. Bowers is one of the last living World War II Veterans.
"I just feel so greatly honored to have been able to serve my country," exclaimed Bowers.
Gillham lived off the land for nearly 30 years.
"Hunted and fished for meat," Gillham recalled, "and canned and froze as many vegetables as we could, never had to buy any at the store."
Finally, Burgess was born in England.
"I married a man from USA, from Burlington," Burgess continued, "I managed to go home a couple of times to see everyone."
For their lives to be so different, there is one thing they all have in common. They have reached the age of 100.
So, what is their key to living so long?
"I eat what I want to eat, even if it's wrong, if its good I'm going to eat it," stated Burgess.
And Gillham's answer may surprise you, "Secret? five ounces of Casa before dinner every night!" she said.
