GREENSBORO, N.C. — We still have a few more weeks until Halloween, but it's never too early to prepare. In fact, the National Confectioners Association said candy sales are expected to increase this year with 93 percent of Americans planning to enjoy their favorite Halloween treat.
Halloween is not just about who can wear the best costume, but who gives out the best candy. Here are the four most common types of candy givers on Halloween night.
First, you have the generous giver. These are neighbors who give out big handfuls of candy. Sometimes they even give out king-size candy bars. The generous giver is often regarded as the most popular house on the block.
Next, you have the healthy giver. This is someone who tends to not give out candy. Typically, they enjoy passing out healthy treats like apples or a bag of mixed nuts.
Then there is the "just take one" giver. There's usually a neighbor who either is not home or is too busy but still wants to participate in the festivities. They leave a bowl of candy on their porch with a sign that says, "just take one." Hopefully, trick-or-treaters follow the rules.
The last type of giver actually isn't a giver at all. These are homes that don't plan to pass out goodies. Usually, that is indicated by the porch lights being turned off.
No matter what type of giver you run into on Halloween, it's important to be respectful. Remember to say thank you even if it's not your favorite treat.
That's My 2 Cents.
