We should say 'no' more often - My 2 Cents

It's hard to say no, but doing so can help you say yes to bigger and better things later.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’

“No,” is such a powerful word. It doesn’t look that way with only one syllable and two letters but it can do so much.

I was taking a virtual workout class this week and the instructor said, “say no now so you can say yes later.” Think about that – what all could you say yes to, if you just said no.

As a society we are so hesitant to say no because it typically means letting someone down. It’s hard to say no to getting dinner with a friend, or no to working late because you don’t want your friend or boss to be disappointed. But think about the yes that your no can unlock. It’s not fun to let someone else down for a moment but it’s better than letting yourself down for a lifetime.

Maybe saying no to dinner with your friend means saying yes time to time working on a hobby or learning something new that ultimately leads to a new business or reaching a goal. Maybe saying no to work means saying yes to your family.

Saying no to the snooze button could mean saying yes to a productive morning.

Saying no to stressing yourself out means saying yes to your happiness.

Saying no to the what you always say yes to… means saying yes to growth.

One syllable. Two letters. But a very powerful word.

We should say no more often.

That’s My 2 Cents.
