We have to avoid pandemic fatigue - My 2 Cents

It's okay to be tired of the coronavirus pandemic but pretending it is over will only lead to serious consequences. WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner shares her 2 Cents.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'

We are entering October, or, the seventh month of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States. I'm tired of it. I bet you are too. That's normal, if you weren't tired of it, honestly, I'd be more worried. But let me tell you what I am concerned about, pandemic fatigue.

Fatigue is different than being tired. I can not get a great night's sleep and be tired in the morning and that's not a great feeling but I'll just have another cup of coffee and be okay. But fatigue comes with a list of side-effects like headaches, muscle weakness, or impaired judgement.

So we can be tired of the coronavirus but we don't want that tiredness to turn to fatigue.

I know it's fun to live life like the virus isn't around anymore. Maybe you want to push the boundaries a bit because it's been almost seven months and you're over it.

But folks, we can't let our guard down.

Just because you're tired of the pandemic doesn't mean it isn't still going on… and if we get to that level of pandemic fatigue we could see the serious side effects -- more cases, more people in the hospital, more shutdowns, more people dying.

It's not worth it.
