GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’
As we wrap up the first week of school, I just want to take a moment and give everyone a round of applause. You only have one more day left and you can do this. Teachers, students, parents and everyone who has a part in educating kids – you’re awesome.
I think it’s safe to say nobody knew this would be the case. Nobody thought they’d be helping kids log on to computers instead of helping them get on the bus. But here we are – and you’re taking it in stride.
Teachers: you’ve had to change everything. Every lesson plan, every project, everything you do to reach students, is different. You’ve become expert communicators. You are getting creative. You are making it work.
Parents: you’re now tech troubleshooters and class monitors. You have busy lives but you’re once again sacrificing for your kids. Even though you’re frustrated, you’re keeping a positive attitude and you’re kids are learning a lot from you right now about how to gracefully manage a stressful situation.
Students: I know you miss your friends and are bummed to only see them through a computer screen. School doesn’t feel the same right now and it’s not fair that you’re missing out on all of the things you’ve looked forward to. But this will end and you’ll be stronger for it.
None of this is ideal. It’s tough and it’s demanding of everyone involved. But I see you and I applaud you. You are capable and you’re truly doing the best you can… and that’s all you can do.
