GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'
How much progress have you lost in the quest of perfection? It's easy to get caught up in getting it just right and getting stuck.
For example, I set an alarm for 6:00 this morning to wake up and do an hour-long work out. I snoozed my alarm, didn't wake up until 6:22 and was close to just calling off the workout entirely because I didn't have an hour. Instead, I got up and did a 20-minute workout.
An hour-long sweat session would have been perfect. A 20-minute one is progress.
I could have stayed in bed and skipped the workout altogether since it wasn't what I planned to or wanted to do. But if I did that I would have missed out on the benefits of my shorter workout.
Perfectionism will crush your productivity because we get caught in the all or nothing mentality.
If I can't get my entire house spotless, why clean anything?
If I eat a box of donut, my whole diet is ruined!
If I don't get that dream job, why apply anywhere else?
Sometimes you just have to get stuff done and throw out the notion that it's all going to go off without a hitch. Strive for progress over perfection.
