My 2 Cents: the emotions of pregnancy announcements

It’s tough sharing good news, when you know there are so many good people who are longing for the same joy.

GREENSBORO, N.C. β€” It's time for my "2 cents."

Last week, I shared with you my husband and I are expecting our third child, who is due in May. We are overjoyed about this new blessing and can't wait to see our older two children welcome a new sibling. Thank you for all of your good wishes.

To be transparent, I grappled with how and when to announce this publicly. I knew you already were noticing my growing stomach on television every morning, but I also knew there would be some people watching...whom this news would hurt.

There are so many couples -- really good, loving people -- who face hurdles in the journey to start or grow a family. The CDC reports infertility affects one in five married couples. Many more have other medical challenges or financial burdens.

My parents prayed for years for me. My mom still vividly remembers how it felt to sit at baby showers, caught in the crossroads of excitement for expectant friends and longing for a child of her own.

Sometimes, life feels cruelly unfair. That's why sometimes, we feel guilty sharing good news, when there are loved ones and strangers going through their most difficult times at our happiest.

It is good to express and celebrate joy...as long as we show empathy and space for others' feelings, all of which are valid.

If you can relate to any of this currently, know I'm hopeful you'll get your answers...your miracle...and will keep you in my prayers.

That's my "2 cents."
