GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’
Fall is still about a month away – September 22nd – but already we are seeing traces of the season. This week popular coffee chains Starbucks and Dunkin’ released their famed pumpkin spice drinks and fall menu items. It’s the earliest they’ve ever hit the market.
I know you may not care but a lot of people do. Starbucks has sold more than 400 million pumpkin spiced lattes since the drink was introduced in 2003.
People love pumpkin spice, it is truly a cultural phenomenon and the original Starbucks latte is largely responsible for the barrage of pumpkin spice flavored everything: deodorant, dog treats and SPAM.
But even if you think it’s gone too far, even if you despise the pumpkin spice latte and all it stands for, do the people who actually enjoy the flavor deserve the social media lashing they always get for the PSLove they have for a PSL?
That goes for anything really. Why do others get to pass judgement on things that people truly enjoy?
Sure, the drink is full of sugar, it’s an odd orange color and it didn’t even contain pumpkin until 2015. I don’t particularly LOVE it but I’m not going to shade people who do. If it makes them happy, who am I to judge?
Listen, all I’m saying is we’ve been through enough this year. Let the pumpkin spice latte drinkers sip in peace.
