My 2 Cents: Keep checking on your loved ones during COVID-19 pandemic

Don't be afraid to reach out for help if you need it, but also be willing to listen.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — I want to be real with you all. I've had a rough few days.

For the most part, I'd been adapting to this new normal: not leaving my house unless absolutely necessary, working from home, not hanging out with anyone, finding ways to occupy my time.

But it just hit me like I wave.

I hate this new normal. I'm tired of it. I just want to hug someone but I can't right now.

And that's the thing about this coronavirus. Just when you think you have a handle on it your emotions fluctuate. And that's normal.

So do you know how I kept myself from spiraling even further? I reached out for help.

I reached out to my friends and family and said,"Hey I'm kind of sad and I need to talk to someone to lift my spirits."

So I did. I had a video call sessions with some of my closest girlfriends and I felt so much better.

I say all of that to say this. Keep checking on your friends and family, even the ones that seem like they have it all together.

Because unless you are actually with them, you may not know what's happening behind closed doors, or even in their mind, unless they share it with you.

I would say don't be afraid to share and be willing to be a listening ear.

Because we are all going through this together.
