My 2 Cents: Honoring the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Thousands are mourning the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. WFMY News 2's Taheshah Moise shares what we can learn from her life.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for "My 2 Cents."

2020 has taken another great.

On Friday, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away after her 5th bout with cancer.

She was small in stature but strong in will. She was a champion for gender equality and civil rights and was a trailblazer for women in law.

Before she left this earth, Ginsberg said she would like to be "Someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has."

I think we can all take a page out of her book, fighting for what you believe in, doing the best you can always, and disagreeing with someone agreeably.

She famously had a close friendship with the late Justice Antonin Scalia. They found themselves on opposite sides of controversial issues often but found a way to push past that.

At a time where politics are so divisive, they were able to keep their friendship intact.

There is so much I can say about who Ruth Bader Ginsburg was, how she pushed past harassment, defeat, and discomfort in her quest to make the country a more just and fair place.

But I'll end with this. May she rest in peace and power and may the rest of us be fueled to carry on her giant legacy.

That's "My 2 Cents."
