GREENSBORO, N.C. — In the run up to Halloween, I've been sharing my favorite costumes over the years from the pterodactyl to the creepy clown and my all-time best: a candidate for president.
True story: I handed out buttons saying "Ben for President" on them at each house we visited. I also used a briefcase to collect all my candy.
Looking at the pictures, I realized they have one thing in common: my mom put so much time and creative energy into each costume. And not just my mom, parents and grandparents everywhere go all out for Halloween.
The kids at their young age might not realize how much time, effort, and money it takes to turn a dream costume into reality. I don't think I did back then. But decades later, I certainly do, and it makes me admire my mom more.
Even in years we didn't have a lot of money, she found a way to make me feel like royalty – literally, look at the king costume she sewed herself. She knew the importance of making memories. And that is the real treat of Halloween.
So today, I want to send a huge thank you to my Mom and all those out there working hard to make every holiday a happy memory.
