GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’
I’ve been reflecting lately on what keeps me going – what helps me stay motivated and positive. Because, if I’m being honest, it’s been harder than ever the last few weeks. Doing this is my way of identifying what works so I can stop doing what doesn’t work.
While this is my personal list, maybe it will help you take the same inventory or even adopt some of what’s working for me into your daily routine.
This all started on my drive home after going to visit my parents over the weekend. I was there to do a mundane task that was by no means fun but I left feeling surprisingly refreshed and grounded. I noted, family keeps me going. Support from my parents and sister and friends who feel like family.
Then, last night I was working out after I got home from work and I felt so happy. Maybe it was the endorphins or the awesome playlist that pumped me up but I truly felt like I could conquer anything after moving my body for just 20 minutes.
This morning, I made my coffee and turned on throwback jams while I got ready for the day. I sang and danced along to the songs I still know every lyric to even after 20 years and thought, this is fun, this is good for my soul.
Finally, as I was writing this 2 Cents, I glanced over to a Bible verse I keep on my fridge, Psalm 61:2, and immediately felt relief from the pressure of the day.
Family. Fitness. Fun. Faith.
They are what help me keep the wheel turning when it feels impossible.
We all need something – or some things – that motivate us and remind us who we are and who we want to be. Things we can focus on when times are especially hard that can bring us back to what really matters.
