GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’
Every week, on Sunday night, I get a group text from a friend asking all of us what our goals for the week are. And I have to be honest, at first, it was really hard for me to decide what my goals were. I would try to think of these big, lofty accomplishments and it all seemed very overwhelming. The pressure to have a “good” or “worthy” goal made it nearly impossible.
It wasn’t until I realized that goals don’t have to be insanely hard or big in order for them to be goals, that I started enjoying making them.
At first my goals were not focused, and unreasonable. They’re still goals – just not ones that will happen in the next seven days. Now, I pair them down into manageable milestones that are still “good” goals but also don’t leave me feeling defeated when Sunday night rolls around.
This week I have five: complete seven workouts, spend less than $15 a day, read my new book instead of watching TV twice this week, focus on gratitude and cook all of my meals at home at least three times.
When the next week rolls around my same friend will text the group asking how’d we did, what are our new goals and how can we all support each other. Pretty amazing accountability but also an opportunity to grow in a practical way.
We shouldn’t be afraid of big goals – goals that can change our lives and even the world – but trying to take those on every single week is impossible… even for a group of five, determined women. Pair down and don’t be afraid to tackle the smaller goals on the way.
