GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for "My 2 Cents."
We are one day out from Election Day. Can you believe it?
Every presidential election we have the opportunity to cast our vote, but this year feels different.
Maybe it's the pandemic. I don't know.
But politics it seems has become more divisive than ever, framed as more of us versus them.
Instead of working together to figure out what's best for the country, it seems the narrative this election cycle has been what will happen if the other side wins.
It can be easy to think if your candidate loses, all is lost.
But I argue it's not, no matter who is elected president. Yes, this election is important – but regardless of the results - not everyone is going to be happy with the outcome.
But one singular event, in my opinion, doesn't set things in stone.
And regardless of who wins, there will still be things in our own communities that will need your attention. I say focus on those items.
What can you do to make an impact in your own backyard? Who can you work with locally to create lasting changes in the place you call home?
I think that shifts things from us versus them to we. What can we do?
That forces us to work together to use our power in a good way to build a brighter future. You are creating a shared purpose and a shared goal.
I believe you'll find more in common with those who may hold different political ideologies.
Bottom line: change doesn't happen overnight. It takes us putting the work day in and day out.
Focus your energy on that instead of one election and I believe you'll see hope isn't lost no matter who wins.
Form your own opinion, that's just my two cents.
