GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'
June 3rd is a special day for my family. It's the day my sister had my twin nieces, Rorie and Penelope. I know most of you have heard me talk about them over the past 365 days, maybe too much, how they're perfect blessings, bring so many people so much joy and are stinkin' adorable.
Rorie was born just a few moments before her sister. She's inquisitive, active and loves to dance to Baby Shark.
Penelope is a ham, loves to take the phone out of my sister's hands when we FaceTime and smiles so big.
They are their own little people with distinct personalities but are connected in a way most don't understand.
My parents and I stood outside the hospital with signs to welcome them into the world a year ago - no visitors were allowed in the hospital because of the COVID restrictions. I stared at my phone screen waiting for pictures of them in the hospital and sat in anticipation for when they'd be able to come home.
I haven't been able to see them as much as I'd like in their first year - they live in Texas and travel has been a little bit tricky during the pandemic - but each time I do see them, in video calls or in person, it's that much more special.
My sister and I have such an outstanding relationship, one that's different from any other and I already see that in Rorie and Penelope. They hold hands, play together, and I can tell they already recognize the importance of sisterhood, they even wanted their new birthday baby dolls to be twins.
Being an aunt is one of the greatest joys of my life. It's only been a year of a lifetime of moments my family will have with Rorie and Penelope but it's been the best year.
Happy birthday, girls.
