GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sunday’s tornado crashed a couple’s wedding photo at their Downtown Greensboro wedding and it was really all an accident.
Matt and Brittney Kiser, who live in Kernersville, got married at Kress Terrace in downtown Greensboro on Sunday.
The couple embraced the rainy weather during their photoshoot by Winston-Salem based photographer Jo Lindsay after the ceremony.
In one of the shots, taken on the rooftop of Kress Terrace, the newlyweds are standing with the Greensboro skyline behind them.
At the top left corner, you can see a funnel-shaped object in the background.
It’s a tornado.
Jo Lindsay only realized what she might have captured when venue staff told them to come inside because of a tornado warning.
“We were in our own little world, just taking pictures,” Mr. Kiser shared. “The director of the venue said ‘We’re having to move everyone downstairs because there’s a tornado warning.”
At first, the photographer couldn’t find any signs of the twister, until she played around with her photo editing software.
And there it was.
The result of being in the right place - and snapping pictures at the right angle -- at the exact time the tornado hit Greensboro.

Jo Lindsay says she’s always been fascinated by natural disasters and twisters, and knows this shot is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“I feel very lucky that they were even willing to stand under an awning that was blowing rain at them, and her veil and all that just to get some beautiful photos,” she says. “That’s the only reason why I even had the opportunity to get that tornado back there”
We asked the couple if they think the tornado is an omen for their marriage… Here’s what the bride said:
“When it rains on your wedding day, it’s supposed to be good luck, right? So, if you have three tornados behind you, I hope that is a great sign for our marriage,” the new Mrs. Kiser explained.
The couple, who are on their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, says they’ve kept victims of the tragedy in their prayers.
“We just prayed because we got so lucky we just barely missed it,” Mr. Kiser added.
