Blood Red Russian River Not A Plague But Still Scary

NORILSK, Russia -- A river in Russia is raising serious concern after the water turned a hue of red reminiscent of a biblical plague.

NORILSK, Russia -- A river in Russia is raising serious concern after the water turned a hue of red reminiscent of a biblical plague.

But while these photos are very real, the waters are not running red with blood.

Instead, Popular Science reports that the eerie thick red currents flowing through the Daldykan River is believed to be related to the Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant.

The Siberian Times reports that the plant processes nickel concentrate and is owned by the company Norilsk Nickel along with several other factories in the industrial city of Norilsk. The company has not confirmed an industrial leakage, however.

Residents have been taking to social media to share the pictures. But they also said that this isn't the first time the river has turned red.
