STILLWATER, Minn. - Morning announcements are usually pretty humdrum, not the pinnacle of a high school student's day.
Friday proved the exception at Stillwater High School, however, thanks to a reader with SERIOUS star power.
Stillwater students were sitting at their desks for morning announcements when a familiar voice boomed over the intercom. "Good morning to the Stillwater Area High School students, this, as you might have guessed, is Dwayne Johnson, also known as 'The Rock' ..."
Students across the school freaked out, but none as much as senior Katie Kelzenberg. You see, Katie asked Johnson to her prom via Twitter last week, not necessarily expecting a response. But she got one Friday, a message that let her flush-faced and overwhelmed.
"Katie, I'm sure you are soooooo embarrassed right now, but I just had to let you know how cool and awesome you are for inviting me to your prom," he said.
Johnson thanked Katie for the invite, then explained he couldn't attend because he is shooting a movie in Hawaii. He then revealed another surprise, one that left Katie speechless with her hands covering her mouth.
"Because we are now best friends, and I have so much love for you because you're so awesome, I have a special gift. I've rented out a theater tomorrow, the gift is this, grab all your favorite friends and closest family members and whoever you want to bring, because tomorrow I'm showing you a screening of my new movie, 'Rampage' ... and all the popcorn and candy and soda you can drink, cause it's all on me."
After proclaiming himself an honorary Stillwater "Pony," Johnson urged some "chivalrous boy" to ask Katie to the prom in his absence ... then signed off with his usual panache.
"Stillwater Area High School, I am OUT!!"
Mr. Johnson also posted a message about Katie on his Instagram account.
