Washington, DC -- This Christmas season, the biblical account of Jesus' birth will be on the big screen in thousands of theaters nationwide and around the world. "The Nativity Story," which opens on December first, presents everything that's in the gospels of Matthew and Luke, from the events leading up to the birth in Bethlehem to the flight into Egypt. Most of the dialogue and plot embellishments are plausible, the costumes and sets are authentic and Mary and Joseph are portrayed as a genuinely human young couple rather than as stiff saints. It's the first major film role for Oscar Isaac, who did the work of a first century carpenter in Nazareth for a month before filming started so he could "find the character" of Joseph. Mary is portrayed by Keisha Castle-Hughes, who was a best actress Oscar nominee for her role in Whale Rider.
