RALEIGH, N.C. — President Joe Biden visited North Carolina Thursday to announce $82 million in new investments from the American Rescue Plan's (ARP) Capital Projects Fund to connect an additional 16,000 homes and businesses to high-speed internet as part of the Biden-Harris administration agenda.

The administration is investing over $3 billion in North Carolina to lower costs for families and connect everyone in the state to affordable and reliable high-speed internet through the American Rescue Plan.

Governor Roy Cooper spoke shortly before President Biden took the stage.

President Biden expressed the importance of manufacturing in America that facilitates job creation.

"I want to make sure that we're making it in America, building it in America with American products and that's why we've created 14 million new jobs," President Biden said.

During his speech, President Biden also expressed the need for high-speed internet for Americans in rural areas too.

"It really is critical. It's just as essential today as electricity was a century ago," President Biden said.

He plans to continue making affordable internet options for families.

"High-speed internet isn't just a luxury anymore it's an absolute necessity," President Biden said.

This visit comes as incumbent President Biden prepares for the general election. Traditionally N.C. has been known as a battleground state, however it's voted red for the last few years.
