New North Carolina laws in effect

These laws started Monday. Here's how they affect you.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Several new laws are now in effect across North Carolina. Here's a look at a few that will affect you:

  • Senate Bill 7-47 tries to clean up some voter registration rules. The bill states that the state and county board of elections must maintain a list of eligible voters. It also states that the list be updated frequently when voters become ineligible, such as with death and conviction of a felony.
  • Senate Bill 6-15 deals with anyone using electronic notaries. It demands all electronic notaries keep records of remote electronic notarization in an electronic journal. The electronic journal will be the exclusive property of the notary.
  • House Bill 6-47 impacts children and families who use children's advocacy centers in North Carolina. Part of the law affects how children's information in an advocacy center is shared. The law also outlines extensive rules required by child advocacy centers to receive state funding.
