NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The North Carolina DNC Delegation announced Sunday, July 21 that they unanimously endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
"This November it'll be a prosecutor going up against a felon. It will be experience going up against extremism," wrote the delegation in an email sent to WFMY News 2.
This comes hours after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House, ending his bid for reelection after a disastrous debate with Donald Trump that raised doubts about the incumbent's fitness for office.
The president — intent on serving out the remainder of his term in office — quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take on Trump and encouraged his party to unite behind her.
The announcement is the latest jolt to a tumultuous campaign for the White House, coming a week after the attempted assassination of Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
Vice President Kamala Harris thanked President Joe Biden for his endorsement and said "my intention is to earn and win this nomination."
Harris is not automatically the de facto Democratic nominee, at this time.
Delegates are expected to select a Democratic presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention next month.
If she is selected as the nominee and wins in November, Harris would be the first female president and the second Black president to lead the U.S.
