CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. — Law enforcement was on the scene of a standoff at a motel following a shooting in Carteret County, according to the Greenville CBS affiliate, WNCT.
Carteret County Sheriff Asa Buck said that a multi-jurisdictional SRT team along with negotiators and other law enforcement were called to Hostess House in Newport on Wednesday morning.
One person was shot and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Buck said.
He believes the suspect was barricaded inside the motel. Schools in the area were under lockdown and roads around the area were closed as officials continued to work the situation.
