Rockingham County Middle school was placed on a secure perimeter Thursday after a threat.
According to Rockingham County Schools PIO Karen Hyler, the middle school was under a secure perimeter since school officials were alerted of a social media threats targeting Rockingham County Middle School.
School officials were alerted of the post Thursday afternoon around 11:00 a.m.
A secure perimeter means doors are locked down and no one is allowed inside and students and or staff can’t go outside.
Due to multiple officers being on the scene for caution, students were dismissed as usual Thursday as the investigation continues.
Nearby schools Wentworth Elementary and Rockingham High School were also placed under a secure perimeter as well due to the reported threat.
