Presidential candidates shape campaigns less than 100 days out from Election Day

Take a look at how the presidential race is taking shape after President Biden dropped out of the race.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA —

It's a new race.

It's only been one week since the historic shake-up of campaign 2024 when President Biden dropped out of the presidential race. As Democrats look for their next nominee, Kamala Harris has seen a big wave in support and cash. In the first week, Harris raised $200 million.

A new poll shows that Vice President Harris saw an 8% boost in favorability among Americans at 43%. Trump's favorability dropped to 36%.

Shaping their campaigns

Kamala Harris pushed to boost the economy, end child poverty, promote labor unions, and reduce health and childcare costs.

Donald Trump laid out his plans to embrace cryptocurrency. He says he wants the U.S. to be a "Bitcoin superpower" under his leadership.

Who will be Kamala Harris's running mate?

A big question on voters' minds is who Kamala Harris's running mate will be. Governor Roy Cooper is one of the names on the short list of options.

Governor Cooper spoke with WFMY saying "I appreciate people thinking of me that way, but like I say, this is the time for us to be supporting Kamala Harris, putting her in the spotlight. I think she's doing this process in the background. I respect that process. I know that she'll end up with a great pick."

What happens if Governor Cooper is picked to be Harris' VP?

If Cooper is out of the state for an extended period, like for campaigning, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson becomes acting governor. It's common for the Lt. Governor to fill in while the Governor is away. However, if Robinson were to pass any executive orders that Cooper wouldn't like, Cooper could just undo them when he got back.

When will the official democratic nominee be named?

The official nominee will be named during the Democratic National Convention in August.
