GREENSBORO, N.C. — Super Tuesday is here! Voters in 14 states are rushing to the polls to vote in the primaries, including in North Carolina.
We're watching a number of hot races in North Carolina.
These are the races we'll be keeping a close watch on throughout the night. Check back here for results. You can also text keyword RESULTS to 336-379-5775 throughout the night for the latest election results.
PRESIDENT
AP and CBS polls have former Vice President Joe Biden winning the democratic primary in North Carolina.
No surprise here - President Trump runs away with the votes for the Republican primary in our state.
U.S. SENATE
Incumbent Sen. Thom Tillis wins the Republican primary. He released the following statement Tuesday night:
“I am honored to have earned the Republican nomination tonight, and pledge to work as hard as I can to hold this seat and get President Trump re-elected so that we can continue to partner on wins for North Carolinians of all backgrounds and political affiliations," said Tillis.
Tillis will take on Cal Cunningham, the Democratic primary winner for the U.S. Senate race, come November. Cunningham is a former state legislator.
N.C. GOVERNOR
Incumbent Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper will take on Lt. Governor Dan Forest (R) this November.
N.C. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 6
Kathy Manning (D) and Lee Haywood (R) win the 6th District Congressional Primaries and will go head-to-head to win the Triad this November.
This is one of the hot races in North Carolina this year, because the district has newly drawn lines. State judges approved a new map of the district last year. The district now includes all of Guilford County and part of Forsyth County, whereas before, it included parts of Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Rockingham, Caswell, Chatham, Lee and Person counties. Political experts believe the new map could favor a democrat. The district has been represented by a Republican since 1985.
