NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Many voters are looking at the race for North Carolina governor and who the next president of the United States will be. Polls are asking voters for candidate and policy preferences for a better idea of what will happen in November.
Race for Governor
Attorney General Josh Stein will face off against Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson in November. A poll by Elon University finds that Stein has a double-digit lead on Robinson. Stein was favored by 49% of voters and 35% favored Robinson.
Jason Husser, director of the Elon University Poll said this is uncommon for governor races in the state. In part governor races the candidates have been a lot closer with only a couple point difference.
Abortion was a high priority for 49% of voters. 47% of those voters say they want decreased restrictions and 17% favored increased restrictions.
In an Emerson College poll, it found an eight-point difference between the candidates. Josh Stein took the lead with 48% and 40% said they support Mark Robinson. 10% of voters said they were still undecided.
Presidential Race
The race for the White House is still too close to call according to North Carolina polls. Both Elon University and Emerson College found a 1% difference in their polls. Members of the two major parties favored their own candidates, but Trump polled stronger among independent voters. The poll also found voters preferred Trump's policies on the economy and immigration. Voters preferred Harris's picks for Supreme Court justices and the environment.
