Over 1 million votes cast since early voting opened: Board of Elections

The numbers are accurate as of 4 p.m. on Sunday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina State Board of Elections announced Sunday that over 1 million people in the state have already cast their votes in the 2024 general election.

Early voting opened in North Carolina on Thursday, and a record number of ballots were cast on the first day polls were open.

In total, 916,433 people have voted in-person since Thursday. More than 90,000 absentee ballots have also been received. Across North Carolina, there are 7.8 million registered voters, so ballots have already been cast for about 13% of eligible voters.

“My sincerest thanks goes out to the county boards of elections and the thousands of election workers around the state who are making this happen,” said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board. “It has been an incredibly busy few days. Please thank those in your community who are making sure your vote counts.”

A total of 863,000 people had cast ballots in person through Saturday, an increase of 2.4% from the 2020 election.

Election Day is Nov. 5. If you haven't registered to vote yet, you can still do so as long as you cast your ballot on the same day.
