NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Voters across North Carolina elected new officials for key positions, including Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and several legislative seats. These leaders are stepping into their roles amid significant policy discussions on education, public safety, healthcare, and economic development.
Here are the newly elected leaders for the state:
NC Governor - Josh Stein
Josh Stein won the 2024 North Carolina gubernatorial race, defeating Republican candidate Mark Robinson. This makes Stein the first Jewish governor of North Carolina. His victory follows a race marked by Robinson’s controversial statements, which many analysts believe contributed to Stein's consistent lead in the polls
NC Lieutenant Governor - Rachel Hunt
Hunt is currently a state senator representing parts of southern Mecklenburg County. She won that seat in 2022 by only 347 votes against Republican Cheryl Russo. Hunt sits on the committees for Agriculture, Energy and Environment; Appropriations on General Government and Information Technology; Judiciary; and Pensions and Retirement and Aging.
NC Attorney General - Jeff Jackson
Jeff Jackson won North Carolina’s Attorney General race, defeating Dan Bishop. His victory marks a significant shift, as he pledged to focus on issues like protecting civil rights, safeguarding consumer interests, and addressing public safety concerns. This outcome follows Jackson’s tenure in Congress, where he built a reputation for his progressive stance on social issues and transparency in government, qualities he plans to bring to the Attorney General's office
NC Superintendent of Public Instruction - Maurice 'Mo' Green
Democratic candidate Mo Green clinches a victory in North Carolina, defeating Republican candidate Michele Morrow in the race for North Carolina State Superintendent. The race was one of the most closely-watched ones in the 2024 election cycle for the Tar Heel State.
US House District 5 - Virginia Foxx
Longtime incumbent, Republican Virginia Foxx, is set to serve an 11th term in the House. She ran against a new challenger, Democrat Chuck Hubbard.
Foxx will represent parts of Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Alleghany, Wilkes, and Watauga counties.
US House District 6 - Addison McDowell
Republican Addison McDowell won the U.S. House seat for North Carolina's 6th Congressional District.
US House District 8 - Mark Harris
US House District 9 - Richard Hudson

US House District 10 - Pat Harrigan
Republican Pat Harrigan won the election for North Carolina's 10th Congressional District, securing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives
US House District 13 - Brad Knott
Brad Knott has won the election for the U.S. House in North Carolina's 13th Congressional District. He ran on a platform focused on securing the U.S. border, supporting Israel, and opposing abortion. His campaign emphasized law-and-order policies, including backing law enforcement and taking a tough stance on crime. He also advocated for school choice and protecting the Second Amendment. Additionally, Knott strongly opposed what he described as "woke" ideologies in public schools and stressed the need for fiscal responsibility, criticizing government spending under the Biden administration
