NORTH CAROLINA, USA — UPDATE: Attorney General Josh Stein is the projected winner of the North Carolina Democratic governor primary, AP reports.

One of the key races is the North Carolina Democratic Governor nomination.
Here are the candidates in the running.
Josh Stein
Josh Stein currently serves as attorney general.
He has held the position since 2017.
As attorney general, Stein helped secure $50 billion nationally to bring opioid addiction treatment and recovery services to North Carolina, defended women's access to reproductive health care, people's access to health care under the Affordable Care Act, and children's right to a sound public education.
He has been endorsed by current Governor Roy Cooper.
Michael 'Mike' Morgan
Michael 'Mike' Morgan is a former North Carolina State Supreme Court Justice.
He served as a state government employee for 44 years, serving 34 of those years as a judge.
The New Bern native was the first Black student to attend all-white Trent Park Elementary School in 1964, becoming one of five Black students that year to integrate New Bern's public school system.
Morgan plans to focus on varying issues such as sound and basic education for all children, access to affordable healthcare, criminal justice reform, and climate change.
Marcus W. Williams
Marcus W. Williams is an attorney.
Williams graduated from UNC Chapel Hill.
He served as an assistant public defender in NC from 2001 to 2006.
He previously ran for N.C. attorney general in 2016.
Chrelle Booker
Chrelle Booker currently serves as Mayor Pro Tempore for Tryon.
She has held the position since 2019.
Booker plans to focus on issues such as housing/shelter/safety, job creation/ employment, healthcare, and education.
Gary Foxx
Gary Foxx has worked in law enforcement and eventually served as chief of police.
He also worked under the Bush Presidency as Eastern NC National Congress for Secure Communities Delegate.
Foxx's platform issues consist of education, safety and security, healthcare and the economy.
NC's History of Governors
Over the years, North Carolina has varied from which party takes the governor's seat.
Democrat Gov. Cooper held the office for two terms before that Republican Pat McCrory held the seat from 2013-2016 .
Before McCrory, Democrat Bev Perdue held the seat from 2009-2013.
