ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — The Alamance County Board of Elections (BOE) explain why the results were delayed on Election Day.
"With the release of unofficial results on election night," the BOE said. "The top priority is ensuring the results are accurate."
The BOE said while the results were late, the gains in accuracy took time. Following the release of the absentee by mail totals, the Alamance County Voting Equipment Technician began uploading the early voting totals.
It said in the process of uploading the early voting totals a security feature built into the reporting program notified the equipment of a discrepancy.
"This feature detects and alerts election officials of any reporting issues," the BOE said.
It said the feature successfully notified them that the program couldn't read the early voting totals. It was then determined that North Boone and North Boone 2 were cross-referenced at the precinct selection on the Express Vote which is a ballot marking device.
A reporting solution was provided by the North Carolina State Board of Elections, and all early voting and election day totals were successfully reported at 12:11 a.m. and publicly visible at 12:33 a.m.
The BOE said it will evaluate possible solutions for expedited and efficient reporting processes, while always ensuring the accuracy of results.
