CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney said he had a problem trying to vote on Election Day, joking he'd been "voted out of the state" during his weekly news conference.
Swinney, whose real name is William Swinney, said when he tried to vote, a poll worker told him he couldn't get a ballot. The two-time national champion laughed it off with reporters, saying it was a result of Saturday's loss to Louisville.
"They done voted me out of the state," Swinney joked. "We're 6-2 and 5-1, man. They done shipped me off."
So what happened? As it turns out, the poll worker initially said Swinney already voted. But it was actually because his oldest son, also named William Swinney, voted last week. A similar situation happened to a Charlotte man during early voting. And much like that situation, both votes will get to count.
Swinney said he was able to complete a paper ballot and was told election officials would hold a hearing on Friday to clear everything up.
South Carolina polls close at 7 p.m. on Election Day. Any voter in line at their polling place when the polls close will be allowed to cast a ballot.
