NORTH CAROLINA, USA — All U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities will be lowered at half-staff on Saturday, Dec. 7 in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The flags will be at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, according to an announcement from Governor Roy Cooper.

This Saturday will mark 83 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941, where more than 2,000 service members and civilians died.

“Today, we honor the courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country during the attack on Pearl Harbor. We owe a debt of gratitude to the servicemembers who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms at home and abroad,” Cooper said in a statement.

Cooper is encouraging individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties, and other government subdivisions to also fly flags at half-staff on Saturday.
