WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA -- Leaf-seeking crowds flocking to the North Carolina mountains won't be disappointed this weekend. Peak color is showing up in the highest elevations right on schedule, while other areas still have a few weeks to go.
According to the latest reports, fall color is really showing up nicely in the highest elevations, above 4,000 feet. This includes popular fall spots like Grandfather Mountain, the Linn Cove Viaduct, and Rough Ridge. Many areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway will have plenty of color to show off this weekend.

Great weather will be along for the ride this weekend as well. Expect dry weather, with partly sunny skies each day. Highs will be around 70 in the highest elevations, but closer to the upper 70s in the lower elevations.
It will take a little longer for peak color to arrive in some of the other mountain areas. Boone and Blowing Rock will take a bit longer to peak, more likely for the weekend of October 21. Asheville and surrounding areas will likely take until at least the weekend of the 21 or even the weekend of the 28.
The Foothills will take about two weeks or so for peak color to arrive, while peak color in the Piedmont-Triad will take until the last days of the month.
