BURLINGTON, N.C. -- If you're looking to add a furry friend to the family, head to Burlington Animal Services.
The shelter is waiving adoption fees for dogs and cats now through July 4 -- it's part of the nationwide Best Friends Animal Society's Save Them All fee-waived summer adoption event.
Regular adoption fees are $90 for dogs, $50 for cats, and will resume Thursday, July 5.
A shelter spokesperson says there's a significant increase for animals entering the shelter during the summertime. They hope the free adoption waiver will be an incentive for more people to come out and give a pet a forever home.
The shelter had about a dozen adoptions on Monday.
Adopted pets are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and will receive 30 days free Trupanion Pet Insurance.
Burlington Animal Services is located at 221 Stone Quarry Road. Hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 4pm Saturday.
