New 3D Scanners for Winston-Salem Police Forensic Team Will Capture Crime Scenes

Police say the scanners can take millions of point of data in seconds, eliminating human error at crime scenes.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Forensic Services Division of the Winston-Salem Police just got the latest and greatest technology: 3D scanners. 

Police say the scanners can take millions of point of data in seconds, eliminating human error at crime scenes. 

The Traffic Enforcement Unit has been using the 3D scanners for several years to survey crash scenes, and the Forensic team says they have wanted to acquire the scanners for years. Now they have it. 

Police say the the 3D scanner takes multiple scans, and then they are woven together.

The 3D scanners will help court cases, as it will give jurors a precise look at crime scenes.
