FORT BRAGG, N.C. — 500 soldiers from Fort Bragg recently deployed to parts of Arizona and California to help with border security, Fort Bragg officials confirmed Friday.

This comes in the wake of President Trump's declaration of a National Emergency at the southern border.

Fort Bragg soldiers are part of more than 4,000 active duty forces that have been deployed at the border, U.S. Army North Public Affairs Director Cathy Wilkinson tells WFMY News 2.

Wilkinson says the soldiers will help with mobile surveillance and the emplacement of about 140 miles of barbed wire fencing between the points of entry in California and Arizona.

Fort Bragg officials say soldiers will also help Customs and Border Patrol with logistics, policing, medicine, and public affairs.

"Our support will help ensure CBP personnel are able to execute their Federal functions, increase the effectiveness of their operations, and support Department of Homeland Security (DHS) efforts to manage border security," the Fort Bragg Public Affairs Office said in part in an emailed statement.

Fort Bragg says Elements of the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, 16th Military Police Brigade, 20th Engineer Brigade, 44th Medical Brigade, and the 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment from Fort Bragg have been deployed as a rotational unit.
