Most Americans are familiar with Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but now another national holiday honoring veterans is on the calendar.
March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day, observing those who fought in the Vietnam War.
The holiday was made official by President Donald Trump last year when he signed the 'Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017.' The act made a law designating March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
Many public buildings will fly the American flag in honor of the vets and many veterans groups will hold services. The day gives recognition to the men and women who didn't get a proper welcome home upon returning home from the war and to honor fallen soldiers.
There will be a National Vietnam War Veterans Day ceremony at Wrenn-Miller Park in Jamestown at 11 a.m. Thursday. The ceremony will be in front of the Jamestown Veterans' Memorial and will include a proclamation from Jamestown Mayor Lynn Montgomery.
Larry Hall, Secretary of the NC Department of Military And Veterans Affairs (DMVA) along with the NC National Guard, the NC American Legion, the NC Veterans of Foreign Wars and other military and veteran organizations will honor the 45th National Vietnam War Veterans Day Thursday at 10 a.m. at the NC State Capitol.
The Department of Defense will conduct a wreath laying ceremony with the Department of Veterans Affairs at The Vietnam War Memorial today.
