UNLV shooting suspect's ties to North Carolina

Three people died and one person remains in critical condition after a shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, officials said.

LAS VEGAS — The suspect in Wednesday's deadly Las Vegas shooting has ties to North Carolina.

The Associated Press has identified him as Anthony Polito. He once worked as a professor at East Carolina University and was a student at Duke.

AP's sources said Polito recently applied for a job at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, but didn't get it.

Duke University said Polito received an MBA from Duke's Fuqua School of Business in 1991.

Several sources have listed Polito's LinkedIn account, where he described himself as a "semi-retired university professor" living in Las Vegas.

He listed employment at ECU from 2001 to 2017.

Officials said three people died and a fourth is in critical condition following Wednesday's shooting. The names of the victims have not yet been released.

UNLV Police Chief Adam Garcia said the gunman opened fire shortly before noon Wednesday on the fourth floor of the business school and then went to several other floors before he was killed in a shootout with two university police officers outside of the building.
