OCHO RIOS, Jamaica — Strong winds and large swells sent a Carnival cruise ship crashing into a dock Tuesday morning in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
It happened around 11 a.m. while the Carnival Magic was docked. In a statement, the company said the weather conditions caused the pier fender to collapse under pressure, causing the ship to make contact with the pier.
Photos show scratches to the paint on the side of the ship.
No one was injured and all the ship's services remained operational, according to Carnival.
The ship left the area for the safety of everyone on board, docking at a nearby pier for passengers to go ashore.
"Given the weather conditions in the region, multiple cruise lines cancelled calls to Grand Cayman for Wednesday, which included Carnival Magic," the cruise line wrote.
Instead of continuing to Grand Cayman, the ship stayed in Ocho Rios with plans to depart Wednesday evening.
