Sensible gun laws, third-party option: Second Look

Letter to the editor:

Letter to the editor:

As an emergency room nurse, I took care of a young man who was standing at a bus stop and got shot by a random bullet. Innocent bystander shootings and deaths are now a common occurrence. The anti-gun-law advocates argue that laws won't stop all gun violence from occurring. Well, Hawaii has proven that gun laws and regulations can reduce gun violence. Hawaii has one of the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the lowest rates of gun violence. Nevertheless, we do love hunting in Hawaii. But to get your hunting permit you need to go to the hunting and safety class. It’s a month-long process. Not too many mentally unstable people would endure the long courses. That’s an easy way to eliminate those who should not have access to a gun.

On general elections polls that include Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party have him receiving up to 9% of the support. This upcoming election is already going down in the history books, and many Americans are frustrated with the candidates representing Democrats and Republicans. Johnson’s supporters have both left-wing and right-wing views because Libertarians stand for social liberalism and fiscal conservatism. Due to the large dissatisfaction with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, polls would be a lot more accurate when Johnson is included in them. This election year is different from most, since a third-party candidate may have a legitimate shot — if he is able to participate in presidential debates.
