Panthers sign Brandon Boykin to bolster secondary

With cornerback Josh Norman's contract situation unresolved, the Carolina Panthers took a different step to address its secondary.

With cornerback Josh Norman's contract situation unresolved, the Carolina Panthers took a different step to address its secondary.

Cornerback Brandon Boykin signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Monday, the team announced.

Boykin's signing likely doesn't affect Norman, who has yet to sign his franchise tender and is seeking a long-term contract. But Boykin gives the Panthers a defensive back who thrives operating in the slot.

Boykin had a diminished role with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season after being traded by the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason. He had six interceptions in 2013.
