Silver Alert Canceled After Greensboro Man Found Alive Inside His SUV In a Reidsville Ditch

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Silver Alert issued by Greensboro Police for Earl Smith has been canceled. Smith was reported missing from Locksley Lane in Greensboro around 6pm Wednesday evening. 

Thursday someone reported to authorities they saw Smith at the McDonald's on W. Gate City Blvd around 6:30pm driving a pearl white Cadillac Escalade. Two more days pasted by without a trace of Smith or the SUV. 

Greensboro Police are looking for a missing 72-year-old man. At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Earl Smith was reported missing from the 3000 block of Locksley Lane in Greensboro. Police say Smith has dementia or some other cognitive impairment. A Silver Alert was issued.

Sunday, that all changed when the Rockingham Sheriff's Department confirmed Smith was found alive inside his Escalade deep into the treeline along Morehead Street in Reidsville. 

Smith suffers from dementia or other cognitive impairment, and other medical conditions, his family says. He was transferred to a local hospital to be reunited with his family. 

Smith should be able to leave the hospital and return home Sunday, investigators say.
