ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — After taking a chance on a $10 scratch-off ticket, Jonathan Ramsey of Cleveland won the first $1 million prize in a new lottery game.
Ramsey bought the lucky Loteria ticket from Community Grocery on Statesville Boulevard in Cleveland. He had the choice between annuity that would've given him $50,000 every year for 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum and went home with $429,003 after required state and federal tax withholdings.
The $1,000,000 Loteria lottery game debuted in March with four top prizes available. According to lottery officials, this was the first of these prizes to be claimed.
