High Point man wins $1 million prize on scratch-off lottery ticket

A High Point man won a $1 million prize from a scratch-off ticket.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A High Point man has cashed in big after purchasing a $50 scratch-off ticket.

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Vasilios Papageorgiou bought a $10 Million Spectacular ticket from the Horneytown Country Store on North Main Street in High Point. He ended up winning one of the $1 million prizes available.

The NC Education Lottery said Papageorgiou claimed his winnings Tuesday, choosing to take a lump sum of $600,000 instead of an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years. After tax withholdings, he walked away with $429,014.

According to the state lottery, the $10 Million Spectacular ticket debuted in December with "five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000. There are still three $10 million, six $1 million and seven $100,000 prizes available.
