FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A woman in Kernersville stopped for a drink, purchased a lottery scratch-off, and won a $250,000 prize.

Kelly Spahr said she stopped at the Quality Mart on Piney Grove Road for orange juice when the new $20 Merry Multiplier scratch-off caught her eye.

“When I was at the gas station, I saw that there were new tickets out so I decided to try them,” Spahr recalled.

“The ticket has a folding part on it which is what sold me on it.”

Spahr won $250,000, the first $250,000 prize awarded for the game.

“It’s a life-changing amount of money for us,” she said.

“It really helps us out a lot.”

She collected her prize at lottery headquarters Tuesday and, after taxes, took home $178,756.

"It’s nice to know that big wins like this really do happen,” Spahr said.
