GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro man recently turned a $5 scratch-off purchase into a $150,000 top prize, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Danny Johnson Jr. bought the Holiday Cash 50x ticket at the BP on Greensboro Road in High Point. He told lottery officials he likes to play new scratch-off cards as they come out.
The Holiday Cash 50x game debuted in November, according to the state lottery. Two of the four $150,000 top prized offered remain unclaimed.
Johnson said he scratched his winning ticket while standing at the gas pump outside the BP.
"I cracked a smile when I first saw it, but I tried to keep it cool," Johnson said. "I wanted to holler but I knew better."
